Kototama: The Ancient Science of Pure Sound - Bayview Ballroom
May 8, 2008 9AM to 5PM ($125.00 pre-sale, $150 at the door) buy here
Fabien Maman, initiated in Kototama, the ancient Japanese science of pure sound, will introduce his knowledge in this sacred sound workshop. Traced back to Celtic and Druidic tradition, this esoteric Sound teaching has been transmitted secretly and orally within the Japanese culture for the last 2000 years. The Masters' Lineage of Kototama was practiced by the Masters of Aikido - Sensei Ueshiba (the creator of Aikido) and Sensei Ogasawala, who transmitted it to Sensei Nakazono, who delivered Kototama to Europe and the United States, and who personally initiated Fabien Maman in 1975.
For more than thirty years, Fabien Maman has worked with Kototama, developing his own sacred sound protocols, drawing from his experience as a musician/composer, acupuncturist, marital artist, healer/teacher - and his research on the impacts of acoustic sound on human cells. Fabien Maman's life's work is known today as Tama-Do, The Way of the Soul, which is the name of his Academy of Sound, Color and Movement.
In this workshop, students will explore the roots of Kototama. They will learn ancient songs to awaken ancestral memories; the energetic meaning of their own name as a mantra; precise toning techniques to rejuvenate internal organs; and Fabien Maman's precise sound correspondences to harmonize the organs, chakras, subtle energy fields with the seasons, directions and the stars. This is a personal journey into each person's unique Way of the Soul.
Participants will have the opportunity to 'tune' with Tama-Do Academy's sacred sound instruments, including the Giant Pyramid, Chakra Tubes and Monochorde Table.
At the end of the workshop, students will participate in one of Fabien Maman's improvised Seasonal Harmonizing Concerts using elemental sounds and acoustic instruments and voice. No musical experience is necessary.

Primary Keys to Effective Therapeutic Soundtracks - Promenade Ballroom
May 8, 2008 9AM to 5PM ($125.00 pre-sale, $150 at the door) buy here
Are you seeking a new platform and demographic for music production? Looking to understand how music and sound can enhance your therapeutic practice? This workshop is for you!
Tone, Tempo & Pattern is appropriate for musicians, producers, recording engineers and therapeutic professionals-people interested in the growing field of soundwork, defined as music and sound designed for the health and enhancement of nervous system function.
Course Description:
Sound is an ancient healing modality that has retained its potency throughout modern times. Ancient wisdom complements new technologies to impart a deeper understanding of molecular reactions, neurological benefits, and the emotional effects of sound healing. Psychoacoustics-the study of the effect of music and sound on the human nervous system-forms the foundation upon which the emerging field of soundwork builds.
TT&P is a broad introduction to the theory and tools of modern soundwork. In this 1-day workshop, we delineate the components of sound, explore the physiology of hearing, experience the psychology of listening, and observe our natural human responses to vibration and frequency. Topics include psychoacoustics, bioacoustics, resonance, entrainment, current therapeutic sound techniques (including Tomatis filtration/gating and binaural beat frequencies), and the creation of therapeutic soundtracks.
Joshua Leeds is a sound researcher, educator, and producer of over thirty soundtracks used in clinics and classrooms around the world. He is the author of Through a Dog's Ear (2008 Sounds True), The Power of Sound (2001 Healing Arts Press), and Sonic Alchemy (1997 InnerSong Press). Collaborating with neuro-developmental specialists, psychologists, doctors, and veterinary neurologists, his soundtracks are highly regarded in the field of therapeutic sound. Combining world-class production with leading psychoacoustic techniques, his emphasis has moved from entertainment to entrainment.
